What is the Memorial Forest?

Being installed on the north end of our property, this forest will re-introduce native trees, bushes, and other local plants and flowers on our church property to create habitats that support our local ecosystems and wildlife. Our faith calls us to be good stewards of the earth, and we believe it is an act of faithful discipleship to care for our church property as part of God’s creation.

The trees of the memorial forest have been donated in memory and in honor of loved ones connected to the church community. Additional plants are native varieties, allowing this plot of land to better support of local ecosystem as we care for creation.

Creating the Memorial Forest

As a natural woodland space, the Memorial Forest will be a constantly evolving process. Over the years, the forest will grow and change, but there are a few key phases of work as we begin the project.

Phase One

Complete!
  • Add several rounds of woodchips to the ground to kill the grass and create a woodland floor.

  • Create an initial pathway through the forest.

  • Plant several native plants, particularly lining the pathway.

  • Plant the first of the trees in the forest.

Phase Two

Scheduled for Fall 2026
  • Plant additional native plants and groundcover.

  • Plant additional trees in the forest.

  • Purchase and place signage, listing the names that the donors are memorializing and honoring.

Phase Three

Scheduled for 2027
  • Construct a more permanent, accessible pathway through the forest.

  • Plant additional native plants and trees.
